Care of Wooden Garden Furniture
All our wooden garden furniture sets are treated with a preservative oil during their manufacture however we recommend application of teak oil or preservative prior to placing outside to maintain colour and finish. Once treated this must be maintained frequently to retain original outlook. If you decide not to treat your product it will lose its colour over time and turn silvery grey. This is a slow process and your item will not lose its colour evenly. It is best to decide and maintain the course of action of regular treatments or not treating at all before the item is placed outside.
Wood is a natural product. Small cracks and fissures are normal and these will open and close during the seasons. They do not affect stability of the product. On untreated items these cracks and fissures can be more apparent as the wood surface loses some of its oils and turns grey. This is normal and eventually they will close up a little as the colour becomes an even grey.

Maintenance for treated wood
- We would suggest a coat of teak oil \ preservative at least twice a year, this frequency will depend on the weather conditions experienced.
- Make sure the furniture is clean and free from dirt and grease. DO NOT USE A HIGH PRESSURE JET WASH.
- Teak oil \ preservative should be applied onto the furniture following the guidelines of the product being applied.
- Treat all surfaces of the furniture including the 'hard to get to' and hidden surfaces! ( including the underneath). Pay particular attention to any joints or end grains.
- On weathered, greyed furniture, two or three coats should be applied and left to dry before sanding smooth and re-applying.
- Allow between 4 and 12 hours for the oil to dry - depending on the weather conditions.
- Remember, it is better to have excess oil than no oil on at all! Any excess oil can be wiped off with a clean cloth. Always follow the application instructions on the container.
To prolong the life of the wooden garden furniture and to maintain its appearance, the furniture should be protected from severe weather conditions and stored under cover during winter with a liberal coating of oil. If your are not treating your product just place under cover in winter if required.
